Yesterday, I participated in the Great Debate between Harvard and Howard Universities. The event, sponsored by the Connecticut NAACP, brought the two teams together in the Bloomfield, CT First Cathedral. Two topics were debated: drug testing for college students and Hank Johnson's Grand Jury Reform Act. More than 3,000 students were in attendance, representing more than 60 Connecticut high schools. It was inspiring to speak before so many eager and enthusiastic young people. I'm looking forward to producing events like this upon my return to Hawai'i.
